Logica expands in Germany and Australia European IT services and consultancy firm Logica has made acquisitions that boost its strength in Germany and Australia. In Germany, Logica is buying leading IT services company PDV Unternehmensberatung for almost $600 million. In Australia, it is buying MITS, the utilities-focused IT services business unit of Utility Services Corporation (USC), for just over $50 million. It is also acquiring the IT consulting arm of USC. A rights issue will cover all the acquisitions. PDV is headquartered in Hamburg, with 13 offices mainly in Northern Germany and around 1,200 employees. It focuses on the finance, public sector, energy, utilities and industry, communications and media sectors. Its 1999 revenues were $116 million. Logica chief executive Dr Martin Read said: "The proposed PDV acquisition will take Logica's workforce in Germany from approximately 100 to 1,300 and offers the critical mass we have been seeking to capitalise on the German market." MITS has around 550 staff and is primarily active in systems integration, facilities management and technology maintenance. Its revenues were around A$65 million for the financial year ended 30 June 2000. More... |
