Wireless is more Cliff Mills presents highlights
from a recent PMP report on the impact, now and over the next two years,
of wireless technology on business in Europe. |

Surveys, reports and anecdotal evidence have recently propelled wireless pervasive technology to the forefront of the IT scene, especially in Europe. Although telecoms carriers have experienced well publicised difficulties since the end of 2000, the technology itself is widely seen as a bright light in a relatively subdued market. There is little doubt that wireless is already happening. Furthermore, it will grow in importance over the next two years. Although early adopters exhibit caution in various ways, many companies are preparing to exploit wireless technology across Europe and in many industry sectors. This promises to be a key area of opportunity for consultants, now and in coming years. Earlier this year, PMP contacted 601 companies in seven European countries across 10 industry sectors to ask their views on the current and future use of wireless mobile data technology within their organisations. Of the companies contacted, three-quarters claimed to be using wireless mobile data applications already while the remainder planned to do so within the next two years. |
