Lucent Technologies designs and produces systems, software and services for next-generation communications networks for service providers and enterprises. Headquartered in Murray Hill, New Jersey, the company was created in 1996, combining the systems and technology units that were formerly part of AT&T with the research and development capabilities of Bell Labs.

In Europe, Lucent has about 20,000 employees at 98 locations in 27 countries, and over 29 Bell Labs R&D facilities. Its global headquarters for GSM and UMTS are in Swindon, UK and design and manufacture of the OneBTS base station are at Lucent’s Global Provisioning Centre in Nuremberg, Germany.
