The title of this report, E-Communications, is a shorthand expression for the business and technology infrastructures that support and underpin e-business. As a brief, that covers a good deal of ground, and ICG’s contributors to this issue have risen to the challenge. Ron Mackintosh of Differentis argues persuasively that the new e-business environment calls for a fresh approach to project management. In an entertaining feature, Michael Dixon of Foskett Powell draws valuable lessons from ill-conceived implementations. Samantha Rendle of ColoAdvisors explains the concept and purpose of a new breed of managed services. Brian Spiegelhalter of BT Ignite outlines the capacity and performance gains in the pipeline from networking technology, and Phil Flaxton of Interforum makes the case for wireless technology and m-commerce. ICG’s access to PMP’s own research presents a clear picture of how Europe is taking to wireless and the prospects for the next two years. Cliff Leach of Lorien Consulting puts it all in context and anticipates opportunities for consultants in a variety of roles.
