ManagedStorage International is a global provider of online managed information access and protection services. As such, the company seeks to address the information management challenges which e-businesses face, and notes the importance of ensuring the security, reliability and availability of mission-critical assets.

The company was developed inside StorageTek and subsequently launched in March 2000 with $50 million of funding from Great Hill Equity Partners. In September 2000, ManagedStorage secured further investment of more than $50 million from Providence Equity Partners, First Union, JP Morgan and EMC.

Headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado, ManagedStorage has 250 employees. Its offerings are managed from centres around the world.

The company believes that by placing disk and tape storage capacity on the internet backbone and by its focus on storage and value, it will be instrumental in transforming the world of e-business data storage.

Digital demand

Storage demand worldwide is exploding due to the increasing business reliance on digital information. In Europe, demand for storage services is expected to grow to $2.2 billion by 2003, according to Gartner Dataquest. The digital boom, complexity of formats and critical data are all factors in the development of outsourced online storage services.
