Making business intelligence reusable Once you’ve generated valuable business
intelligence, what do you do with it? Dr Frank Kappe of Hyperwave
argues that the truly intelligent thing to do is make it reusable. |

Few organisations today do not have some kind of system for generating business intelligence. It may be a dedicated tool drawing on a well-structured data warehouse or simply a primitive sales spreadsheet, but everyone recognises the value of utilising business intelligence to make better, more informed decisions. As a result the market is now awash with reporting tools and analytical applications that take information from a data warehouse, an enterprise application or indeed any other structured data source, and present it in a logical and easily understandable way. Armed with these reports and analyses, businesses stand to gain a number of benefits: the ability to identify problems earlier and pinpoint areas of growth, for instance, as well as gaining insight into operational effectiveness, sales results and even staff performance. What is clear, then, is that BI offers enormous value to organisations. But it is my conviction that, currently, many businesses are not using this intelligence to its full potential. |
