Trend setting Christina Schlegl of net W+P describes how the German fashion industry is moving towards greater use of e-commerce concepts. |

The fashion industry symbolises innovation, creativity and fascination. It is a market full of emotions; fashion is about lifestyles, identification and joie de vivre. It might therefore seem incongruous to relate this emotional world to the cold business rationale of e-commerce, enterprise resource planning (ERP) and electronic supply chain management (eSCM). At a business level, of course, the world of fashion is a union of emotions and strategic calculations for the achievement of corporate goals. Today, key factors are speed, quality and price. The logical consequence is the appliance of internet-based supply chain management to accelerate and improve manufacturing, communication and order processing, both internal and external, in the apparel, textile and shoe industries. The use of e-commerce technologies in these sectors is, however, still in its infancy, as a study on e-commerce use in the textile industry by the German Federal Ministry for Economy and Technology stated lately. |
