 Collaborative Supply Chain   exSourcing

Playing to a strength

Andrew Parker of Forrester Research outlines the theory of exSourcing and itemises the practical benefits it offers.

Across Europe, firms have begun to move from simple e-commerce initiatives to the complex parallel processes of e-business1.

Many managers expect to rely mainly on internal resources to build and operate these new systems. But even the largest companies will fall short of their targets – stalled by their lack of agility in process change and the complexity of collaborating with partners. To bypass these roadblocks, firms will turn to a new breed of help firms that Forrester calls exSourcers.

As companies sink their teeth into simultaneous requirements for extended CRM, e-marketplaces, network supply chains and a dozen other initiatives across hundreds of partners, it will be a battle to keep developments on track. Do-it-yourself methods will run into multiple barriers in co-ordination, skills, cost and technology.
