Collaborate to complicate? Martin Atherton of Datamonitor summarises recent research into the state of collaborative tools and techniques. |

Business analyst Datamonitor recently explored the set of e-business software markets which make up the primary buy-side applications in the enterprise in its report Supply Chain Management Part 1: Strategies for buy-side success. Many communities were involved in the project research: users, software vendors, systems integrators and professional services providers. Several of the key findings and issues are discussed here. Competitive landscape The competitive situation seems to be dictated by the movement of vendors towards the creation of fully collaborative, end-to-end solutions. There will be continual ‘new’ markets borne out of innovation from specialist vendors. However, rather than remaining distinct markets in their own rights, these areas of new functionality are likely to be absorbed into the increasing scope of the offerings of the major vendors, either through close partnerships, or in many cases, through acquisition. |
