Management of the supply chain has become a focal point of IT development for many organisations. It promises to yield benefits for suppliers and customers across the spectrum. This report looks at collaborative work in the supply chain context. Kevin Pendlebury of Logica notes that collaboration between trading partners can be mirrored by collaboration between consultants and clients. David Wootton of Per Pro suggests a systematic approach to managing suppliers, and Bill Morrissey and Derek Thomason of Miebach Logistics urge organisations to upgrade their purchasing/procurement specialists. Portum’s Stephen Williams explains e-procurement and online marketplaces, and Christina Schlegl of net W+P illustrates some of his comments in her description of the highly fragmented German fashion industry’s moves towards e-business. On the research side, Andrew Parker of Forrester Research explains the theory of exSourcing to extend business processing to external associates while Martin Atherton of Datamonitor looks at the changing face of the IT market in this sector.
