However, the present difficult economic conditions may not be the only reason why knowledge management plans may take longer to come to fruition than many have expected.

A recent study by the Cranfield School of Management interviewed nearly 600 firms, 35% of which were in the manufacturing sector, about their interest in knowledge management. It found that only half (50%) the sample discussed the topic at board level (see 'Line of best fit' article).
