Uneven results
The other hallmarks of this era were the creation of industry-specific e-marketplaces, where buyers effectively clubbed together to present a united face to their supplier community, and online procurement auctions.

In all cases, the effect was to produce a very uneven supply chain. While some isolated elements were collaborating closely, for much more of the time processes continued to operate independently of each other and those of the other partners.
