A new e-commerce standard aims to streamline oil industry procurement in the US and Europe.
XML oils energy standard
The oil and natural gas industry claims to have moved a step closer to seamless e-procurement throughout its supply chains in the US and Europe by agreeing a single e-commerce message standard based on eXtensible Markup Language (XML).
The American Petroleum Institute e-Commerce Committee’s Petroleum Industry Data Exchange (PIDX) completed an initiative this summer to define electronic data standards for the procurement process surrounding complex products and services. Completion of the work, which is expected to save the industry millions of dollars by cutting costs and improving efficiency, should facilitate the direct exchange of documents and interoperability between thousands of different computer systems across the industry.
