Oracle Corporation believes that one of the key benefits from the supply chain can be achieved by aligning it with enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) software. This should help an organisation achieve its business goals by automating and speeding up the processes involved in making and delivering products and services to customers. In this ‘end-to-end’ model, supply chain applications are integrated with both back office (accounting, human resources) and front office (sales, marketing, service, contract management) applications.
But this kind of end-to-end integration is far easier said than done. Businesses who go down a ‘best of breed’ departmental approach to software will find that for every €1 spent on software the additional €9 spent on integration will be an unexpected shock. The easier the integration, the less expensive the new software will be, and the quicker it can be up and running.
