The engine of workflow is one of the main constituents of an e-procurement package. It allows the encoding within the system of buying and supply procedures. Who has the right to bring what up on screen? Who is authorised to place a particular order? Who should be consulted, and in what circumstances? Who must approve what? According to what rules?
The motors of real-time workflow enable the coding of all the rules you can imagine, and a great deal more easily if there is available a reference manual for the enterprise or any LDAP enterprise directory. You may, for example, automate the contribution of a security expert to authorise the order of office furniture off-catalogue for a building of great height. You may equally automate validation procedures at many levels.
