Pat Sweet finds the market analysts agreed on the view that data warehousing and business intelligence are set to extend their influence across organisations.

The result has been a dramatic drop in CRM activity. Hewson Consulting, for example, reckons that growth in the global CRM market in 2001 was slashed from 100% in 2000 down to a meagre 2.7% in the following year.

This reversal of fortunes has had an obvious impact on the associated data warehousing and business intelligence sales. In its most recent survey of this area, IDC reports that software sales, at least in the tools and analysis section of this market, have also slowed considerably.
