When specific information needs are raised, it is worth asking: “If you had that information today, who would use it, and how would it benefit the business?” That way, the contribution of each individual requirement to the desired outcome can be verified. And if the general business context for the information requirements is well understood, more detailed analysis will usually result in the creation of very representative information models.
Every business objective must, by definition, have an expected benefit, which must be measurable (though not necessarily in financial terms) so that judgment of success is not subjective. As the real benefits achievable from a warehouse are tied to its use, so the measures of success must be too.
