Data Warehousing & Business Intelligence (May 2002) Summary
Data warehousing can be regarded as a mature and well understood technology. However, its strategic impact and the effect business intelligence has on corporate cultures continues to evolve.
This issue of International Consultants’ Guide concentrates on the variables as opposed to the constants. Pat Sweet looks at the way the market is moving, while Simon Olive of Pecaso and Justin Short of Contemporary present their views on how business intelligence – its collection, analysis and distribution – is developing. Jim Irving of Information Builders explains one new approach.
Independent specialist consultants Keith Roberts and Peter Giblett examine the nature of data warehousing projects in a business context. This issue also includes two case studies: one features the efforts made by UK retail giant WHSmith to improve its customer service with better business intelligence, and the other considers the implications of large volumes of data for the systems infrastructure.
Throughout this issue we feature profiles of suppliers of data warehousing and business intelligence software and services. This information, supplied by the companies, has been checked and validated by management and IT consultancy AnitePS Consulting (formerly Lorien).
